August 2020 Congratulations to…

 

Samantha Ocena who has a poem forthcoming in Cimarron Review.  This summer, Sam also taught a workshop on “Poetic Justice” with the Martha’s Institute of Creative Writing Virtual Creative Writing and Literature Festival.

Christopher Ramirez, recipient of UC Merced’s 2020 Non-Senate Academics Council 2020 Award for Service.  This summer, Christopher was also selected to participate in the Central Valley Latino Leadership Academy’s 2020 3rd Cohort. The Central Valley Latino Leadership Academy, a project of the Latino Leadership in the Valley group, aims build the capacity of the next generation of Latino Professionals by providing leadership tools, networking and mentoring to selected cohort participants.

Iris D. Ruiz for launching a new BIWOC Podcast by and for Black, Brown, and Indigenous Women of Color in Writing Studies, titled Creating Coalitional Gestures. This summer, Iris was also featured in an episode of Pedagogue and taught a two-day webinar titled “Creating Epistemic and Community Coalitions” with Brian Hendrickson.

Helen Sandoval who recently became Book Review Editor for LiCS (Literacy in Composition Studies), the online open access scholarly journal.  She was also brought on to the Editorial Board of Latinx Writing and Rhetoric Studies, an online open access scholarly journal for Latinx scholars.

Dawn Trook for her recently published article “Covid-19 Complicates not Causes Domestic Violence” published in Ms. Magazine.  Additionally, Dawn also co-produced a Walls & Bridges Monologue Festival – with music from Doreen Danielson!  Festival Playlist viewable here.
